Electricity options

The Brookline Green Electricity program offers four different electricity products, all with varying levels of renewable electricity.

Program Duration

The costs for all BGE products are fixed for 35 months, from January 2020 through end of December 2022. Brookline will use another competitive bidding process to secure a new supply contract once this time period has concluded.

Renewable Electricity

All BGE options include minimum percentages of renewable energy required by the State. 3 of the options have extra renewable energy included, classified as MA Class I. Details on the sources of the extra renewable energy are found on the clean electricity page.

No Penalties

At any time, participants can do the following without penalty:

  1. Switch between any option in BGE or
  2. Leave any BGE option and return to Eversource Basic Service

Applicability

The price of each BGE product is the same for all customer types: Residential, Commercial and Industrial.

“Brookline Green Electricity was designed to be inclusive and ensure that all residents, including low-income households,  and businesses would have the opportunity for monthly savings and protection from market volatility while reducing our carbon emissions by using renewable energy. The program offers four products to provide maximum flexibility. And, participants may opt-out at any time without paying a fee.”

–Selectwoman Nancy Heller, Co-Chair, Select Board’s Climate Action Committee

Future savings cannot be guaranteed because future Basic Service rates are unknown. BGE rates can be above or below Basic Service at any time.
